Kentucky's inactive handicap posting season begins Dec. 1: what counts, what does not

A practical winter note for Kentucky golfers: when the inactive posting season starts, what happens to home scores, and when the Index clock starts again on March 1.

LEXINGTON, Ky., November 4, 2026: Kentucky's inactive handicap posting season begins Dec. 1, 2026. From that date through Feb. 28, 2027, scores posted at a Kentucky facility do not factor into a player's Handicap Index. The active season resumes March 1, 2027.

Golf House Kentucky's inactive-season page (title: "Kentucky's Inactive Posting Season Now in Effect") states the rule without a calendar year on the page itself. The Dec. 1 to Feb. 28 window, with March 1 as the restart, is the standing KGA practice we are applying to the coming winter. If Golf House Kentucky posts a dated 2026-27 notice with different dates, follow that notice.

What still counts

If you travel and play in a state that keeps a year-round active season, that score does factor into your Index. Golf House Kentucky lists Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada (Southern Nevada Golf Association only), North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah (southern section only) and Virginia.

Playing in Kentucky this winter

Courses that stay open are still worth playing. Scores at Kentucky facilities during the inactive window simply do not move the Index. For Lexington options, indoor simulators and posted winter rates, see our winter golf in Lexington guide.

Calendar close: KPGA wins the 2026 Coomer Cup

On Oct. 28 at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Team KPGA defeated Team KGA 80-70 in the annual 27-hole Coomer Cup. Golf House Kentucky reported it as the professionals' first win in the event since 2015 and their first under the Coomer Cup name (the match was the Challenge Cup until 2022).
